Online resource offers entrepreneurs and start-ups simple strategies for managing and motivating staffers

Engagement, recognition and work/life balance are just a few of the hot topics that entrepreneur, author and consultant Ty Freyvogel addresses on MakingSenseofYourBusiness.com. Launched to help other enterprise owners get their businesses of the ground, the website features free articles, such as "Operation Employee Loyalty: Twelve Ways Small Business Owners Can Ensure Their Best Employees Never Want to Leave" and "Five to Help you Thrive: The Five Critical Business Relationships Every Entrepreneur Must Nurture," as well as other useful information including tips for finding funding and personal development. This fall, Freyvogel plans to debut a new blog on the site.

Freyvogel, who is based in Pittsburgh, is passionate about helping the little guys, and uses his own life lessons throughout the Making Sense of Your Business site to help entrepreneurs leverage their potential through better management. When asked about the biggest challenge facing small companies, Freyvogel is quick to answer, "Lack of flexibility. Typical entrepreneurs are so passionate about their business, they get so concerned about delivering the product, they have the tendency to become micromanagers and push employees away," he says. "Instead they should be treating employees as stakeholders by allowing them to participate in decision-making, asking if they have the right tools to do their jobs, offering them flex hours and implementing incentives."
